Protect Your Investment With a Ceramic Coating

In this video we show the process of us washing, paint correcting, and installing a coating on this Rivian.

What’s a Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating is a semi-permanent glass like layer that bonds to the vehicles clear coat. It is commonly known in our industry as a “sacrificial” layer of protection. It will absorb the harsh weather elements like rain, dirt, and snow to better protect the paint underneath.

let’s compare ceramic coatings to any carnauba wax in the market. Both offer slick feeling paint, gloss, and hydrophobic properties, but coatings are on a whole other league. Ceramic coatings last much longer, chemically bond to the clear coat, and have insane hydrophobic capabilities. In simpler terms wax is a straw house and a ceramic coating is the brick house against the big bad wolf. Which one would you want protecting your vehicle? I think we both know which one.

The Benefits of a Ceramic Coating

A lot of coating companies that make big claims of what coatings can do. Although there’s some truth to the claims, I don’t like to oversell the capabilities of it.

So here are some benefits you actually get with a coating:

  • Durable protection that lasts between 3 to 7 years.

  • One time application (you don’t need to install every few weeks).

  • Creates a depth and a level of gloss that’s incomparable to other forms of protection like wax or sealant.

  • Provides unmatched hydrophobic properties that keeps your car cleaner and makes it easier to wash (less time washing, more time enjoying).

Before any coating is installed, we make sure your vehicle is properly prepped and corrected with one of our paint correction services. If we apply the coating without the proper prep work, you’re not going to get all the benefits from the coating. That’s what makes us different from other ceramic coating installers. Don’t always go with the “I know a guy that can do it cheaper”, we’ve fixed many poorly installed coatings in the past years. They usually end up costing you more money to get it fixed and not to mention your time and effort.

We don’t like to rush the process. We take care of all of our customers vehicles as if they are our own. Additionally, if it’s not properly installed, you won’t get the actual benefits and you’ll see a ton of smudges across your vehicle. This is what we consider “high spots”. You’ll see this when the coating was not properly applied and it was left to dry for too long without wiping off.

We can’t stress this enough, the more durable the coating, the harder it is to install. You have to understand the weather variables can play a major factor in the installation process. That is why we only install ceramic coatings at our shop location. We do this to insure you of a quality product that is backed up by the manufacture warranty.

Prior to installing the coating we make sure the vehicle is properly prepped. One of the key steps is paint correction. Here we are demonstrating a single stage polish on this Tesla. Just look at the shine and depth. This finish is what we are sealing in after the coating is installed.

Common Myths About Ceramic Coatings

Yes, coatings are long-lasting and durable, but that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want with your vehicle and think the coating will protect it.

It has its limitations and it’s important to understand the limitations of what the ceramic coating can handle. Too many times we see customers overthink the protection aspect of the coating and are then disappointed when they see swirls or etchings in the paintwork.

The coating will not make your paint scratch-proof. When we say the coating will resist light swirls and scratches, we genuinely mean very light swirls and scratches that might be induced when properly washing or drying the vehicle.

If you drag a dry and dirty wash mitt across the paint, you will scratch the paint. If you drag your hand or leg across the paint, you will scratch it.

The coating will not protect your paint from rock chips. No matter how many layers you apply of any protection, whether it’s wax or ceramic coating, it cannot stop the impact of a rock hitting your vehicle.

The coating requires maintenance to prolong the durability. Just like many other things in life, if you don’t care for the coating, it will degrade overtime and not last it’s intended lifespan.

You have to properly wash, dry, and boost the coating for maximum durability. A coating that was meant to last for 6 years can start to break down at year 3 if not cared for properly.

The proper way to maintain the coating is to wash the vehicle regularly with a PH neutral soap. We highly recommend hand washing it biweekly to keep the coating from getting clogged prematurely.
